Strike Two
Week two has come and gone, and so have two opportunities for the Hawks to take control of a sputtering NFC West. It looked like business as usual as the Hawks ran out to an early lead and had 20-13 lead late in the third quarter until a tipped pass fortuitously landed in the hands of defensive stud Patrick Willis who returned the pick 86 yards for a game tying touchdown. This play changed the tone for the rest of the game. A mere two minutes later Walt Harris picked off another tipped pass, setting up San Francisco’s next touchdown. The Hawks battled back to regain the lead at 30-27 about halfway into the fourth quarter, mainly on the back of Julius Jones who finished the game with 127 yards on the ground and a touchdown. Not going quietly into that goodnight, the 49ers kicked a game tying field goal with about three minutes left in regulation. The Hawks got the ball back on the north side of the two minute mark but were unable to generate any offense, giving the ball back to the visitors. Taking a page out of the Seahawks book, it was the Niners who actually got themselves in a position to kick a game winning field goal but Joe Nedney’s 41-yard attempt sailed wide as the clock his 00:00. Proving the importance of having a short memory when it comes to missed opportunities, Nedney nailed a 40 yarder on the 49er’s opening drive in overtime quieting a packed Qwest Field, and leaving the Seahawks with more questions than answers.
One of the big questions was whether or not some witch doctor has placed a hex on our beloved Hawks receiving corp. You know things just aren’t going your way when you have to press your back-up quarterback into receiving duties, only to have him come up injured during pregame warm ups. They say if it weren’t for bad luck we’d have no luck at all, trust me, all of us would rather have no luck at all.

If anybody is up right now I’m ready to tailgate. I’m the U-dist and can meet downtown in a jiffy.
