Practice Squad Changes

AUTHOR: Shaun Dolence | IN: News | COMMENTS: None Yet

According to a report from Danny O’Neil’s Seahawks blog, the Seahawks have cut running back Devin Moore and linebacker Thomas Williams from their practice squad.
Devin Moore became a fan favorite because of his unique style of running during the preseason. He flashed good speed and maneuverability, and showed off a unique collection of juke moves. But the undrafted rookie from Wyoming was unable to beat out Justin Forsett for the final running back spot.
During the preseason, Moore averaged only three yards per carry, but led the Seahawks with 45 carries and 136 yards on the ground.
As a replacement, the Seahawks [...]

Mike Singletary is Great, Jim Mora is Emotional?

AUTHOR: Shaun Dolence | IN: Opinion | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

After Sunday’s loss to the Chicago Bears, Jim Mora chastised kicker Olindo Mare in his post-game press conference for missing two key field goals. It is quite rare for a head coach in the NFL to single out a player like Mora did with Mare.
“There’s no excuses for those,” Mora said through pure emotion. “If you’re a kicker in the National Football League, you should make those kicks. Bottom line. End of story. Perior. No excuses. No wind. Doesn’t matter.
“You’ve got to make those kicks, especially in a game like this when you’re kicking and scratching and fighting and playing [...]

Chicago Bears vs Seattle Seahawks: Game Preview

AUTHOR: Shaun Dolence | IN: 2009 Regular Season | COMMENTS: None Yet

THREE KEYS TO VICTORY:
Shut down Chicago’s running attack.
Last week, the Seahawks allowed Frank Gore to rumble for over 200 yards on the ground, including long bursts of 79 and 80 yards.
You’re not going to win a football game if the opposing running back is that dominant.
The Seahawks need to win the battles up front and control their assignments on defense. No more mental errors; they had a week to practice and review film and shouldn’t make the same mistakes this week.
Chicago will attack with talented running back Matt Forte, a second-year player and fantasy football favorite.
So far this year, Matt [...]

Seahawks Go “Green”

AUTHOR: Shaun Dolence | IN: News | COMMENTS: 6 Comments

As reported by ESPN’s Chris Berman prior to the weekend, the Seattle Seahawks are going to wear the lime-green alternate jerseys today against the Chicago Bears.
Originally a hoax in April, the fluorescent jerseys aren’t a brand new idea. The Seahawks Pro Shop has been selling green jerseys for some time, including a “premier” version of the alternate.
The Seahawks have slowly adopted the green accent, which was just an afterthought when the new logo and jerseys were introduced in 2002. In recent years, players have opted for lime-green shoes, gloves, and sideline gear.
The NFL allows an optional third alternate jersey, but [...]

Matt Hasselbeck Is A Warrior

AUTHOR: Shaun Dolence | IN: Opinion | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Last Sunday against the 49ers, Matt Hasselbeck suffered a fractured rib after absorbing a monstrous blow from linebacker Patrick Willis.
Everyone is well-aware of the injury by now; Hasselbeck’s fractured rib has been the primary topic since the Seahawks departed San Francisco. Initial diagnosis has the quarterback missing at least some time, although there is still a possibility he’ll play this weekend against Chicago.
But even the most optimistic fan is aware of Hasselbeck’s injury history and concerned about how even the slightest damage can affect the rest of the season.
When Hasselbeck first dove at the end zone against the 49ers, the [...]

Injury Update: Hasselbeck Suffered Fractured Rib

AUTHOR: Shaun Dolence | IN: News | COMMENTS: None Yet

Matt Hasselbeck:
Suffered a fractured rib against the 49ers; uncertain how much time he’ll miss. Head coach Mora says he is “day-to-day”.
Justin Griffith:
Will likely miss 3-6 weeks after suffering a sprained MCL.
Sean Locklear:
Suffered a high-ankle sprain; will probably miss at least six weeks. Brandon Frye filled in for Locklear after the injury. The team will not rush Walter Jones onto the field because of the injury.
Josh Wilson:
Also suffered a high-ankle sprain; was replaced by Kelly Jennings in the second half.
Lofa Tatupu:
Should return next week after injuring hamstring against St. Louis. Tatupu left the game early yesterday because there was risk for [...]

Seattle Seahawks vs San Francisco 49ers: Game Recap

AUTHOR: Shaun Dolence | IN: 2009 Regular Season | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The Seahawks suffered their first defeat of the young season yesterday, losing to the 49ers in San Francisco 23-10. Already without nearly half of their starting players due to various injuries, Seattle was dealt a couple more blows during the game.
Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck suffered a rib injury, tackle Sean Locklear left the game with a leg injury, Lofa Tatupu injured his hamstring, and Josh Wilson left with an injured ankle. Am I missing anyone?
I hate to create excuses for losing in San Francisco, but the Seahawks were hopeless with so many starters out. Imagine the 49ers without Frank [...]

Seattle Seahawks vs San Francisco 49ers: Game Preview

AUTHOR: Shaun Dolence | IN: 2009 Regular Season | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Seahawks take on the 49ers in San Francisco today, their second division game in as many weeks. After dismantling a lackluster St. Louis Rams team last Sunday, today is a great opportunity for Seattle to establish an early dominance in the NFC West.
And although the 49ers have struggled in recent years, today’s matchup won’t be easy.
Last week, the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Arizona Cardinals in Arizona, proving they’re capable of competing in the division this season. If you don’t believe in Super Bowl hangovers or Madden curses, then you’ve got to believe that the San Francisco 49ers are [...]
