It’s Time to Retire, Kurt

AUTHOR: Shaun Dolence | IN: Opinion | COMMENTS: None Yet

Trust me.
Since you took the league by storm in 1999, you’ve posted remarkable offensive numbers that are definitely Canton-worthy. Sure, you don’t have the longevity or consistency that other Hall of Fame signal callers have had, but the statistics you’ve compiled should put you over the top.
There aren’t any recent quarterbacks in Canton who can match your completion percentage (65.5), yards per attempt (7.9), or yards per game (over 260). Only Steve Young and a handful of others have a better career passer rating – Young’s 96.8 compared to 93.7 – and Dan Marino is the only quarterback with more [...]

Ready For The Draft

AUTHOR: Shaun Dolence | IN: NFL Draft | COMMENTS: None Yet

I’m officially ready to start thinking about the NFL Draft. I’m done searching for some sort of emotional connection to this year’s playoffs; I’ve had fun watching the games and rooting for certain teams to win or lose, but it just isn’t the same without Seattle involved.
Even though I’ll watch the Super Bowl and probably share my thoughts about the game at some point, I’m ready for the offseason to begin. Moving forward, the next steps for the Seattle Seahawks are free agency and the NFL Draft.
The NFL Draft is always fun to discuss; it is an annual opportunity to [...]

I’ll Have What They’re Having

AUTHOR: Shaun Dolence | IN: Opinion | COMMENTS: None Yet

The New York Jets are one win away from the Super Bowl. Yes, the NEW YORK JETS.
They haven’t made it this far throwing the ball all over the field. They don’t have an All-Pro quarterback. Hell, they don’t even have much of a home-field advantage.
The New York Jets win football games in the trenches. Their offensive line is great, the defense is impenetrable, and they move the football on the ground. The Jets are playing the purest form of football.
How refreshing is it to watch an offensive line that overwhelms opposing defenders? The Jets know how to build an offensive [...]

Bitter In Seattle

AUTHOR: Shaun Dolence | IN: Opinion | COMMENTS: None Yet

What a great weekend for professional football.
Unfortunately, it had nothing to do with the Seattle Seahawks. But I’m optimistic that the playoffs will return to Qwest Field sooner than later.
I’m a Seahawks fan; no way did I want to see the Arizona Cardinals return to the Super Bowl. Watching the New Orleans Saints embarrass the Cardinals on national television was beautiful. I don’t know which I enjoyed more: watching Kurt Warner take a brutal hit in what could be his final game, or seeing Reggie Bush almost single-handedly pound the heartless Cardinals into submission.
You’ll never find me rooting for a [...]

Ready For Carroll

AUTHOR: Shaun Dolence | IN: Fans | COMMENTS: None Yet

Count me in.
Pass the Kool-Aid.
I’m excited about Pete Carroll being the next head coach of the Seattle Seahawks.
After hearing Carroll’s press conference earlier this week, I’m sold. He managed to motivate the greater Seattle area in less than an hour – he convinced a lot of us that this franchise is capable of winning as early as next season.
Of course, wishful thinking isn’t worth much, and Carroll still has to prove himself on Sundays. But for now, I’m completely on board with Carroll as the next head coach of the Seattle Seahawks.
As I’ve reiterated several times, I didn’t completely agree [...]

USC: University of Seattle Coaches?

AUTHOR: Shaun Dolence | IN: News, Opinion | COMMENTS: None Yet

So far, it has worked at the University of Washington.
Steve Sarkisian, former USC offensive assistant and current Washington head coach, transformed an 0-12 joke into a competitive football team after only one season. For the first time in several years, Husky fans are excited about next season. Washington players finally know how to win and are confident in their abilities. It is still early, but it looks like Sarkisian could return the Huskies to glory.
Nick Holt, Washington’s defensive coordinator and also a Southern Cal transplant, has successfully taught the young Husky defense how to stop opposing offenses; last year, the [...]

Ten Reasons Why Jim Mora Was Fired

AUTHOR: Shaun Dolence | IN: Opinion | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

I’m probably in the minority; I didn’t necessarily think Jim Mora should’ve been fired following Seattle’s miserable 2009 campaign. To be fair, I thought Mora should’ve had another opportunity to right the ship. And honestly, I thought the front office and ownership agreed with me.
I guess not. But it isn’t like I haven’t been wrong before.
I’m sure Jim Mora is a great guy off the field. In a tough business like the National Football League, however, positive results must be achieved on the field to retain jobs. Now that Mora is out, I’m completely behind whatever Paul Allen has up [...]
