Qwest Field Needs Attention
It is difficult to drive through downtown Seattle without catching at least of glimpse of Qwest Field. Lately, however, the scenery isn’t as pleasant. Qwest Field needs to be cleaned. Last Saturday, I was driving past the stadium on my way to Seattle Center with some friends and I couldn’t help but notice the stadium. As a proud Seahawks fan, I often take a second to think how great it is every Sunday when filled with over sixty-five thousand. This particular moment, however, was different. I recall making a comment to one of my friends, admitting to the impure visual: [...]
Life After Hasselbeck: Teel, Whitehurst, or …?
Matt Hasselbeck will turn 35 years old this September – even the most casual fan will assume his best days are behind him. It is time to start thinking about life after Hasselbeck. Entering the offseason, fans were optimistic about the plethora of early-round draft picks Seattle had accumulated. The assumption was that the Seahawks would invest at least one of them in a promising, young quarterback. Some were even more optimistic, thinking that Seattle already had a capable replacement in-house: Mike Teel. After flashes of brilliance in the preseason, the former sixth-round pick captured the attention of several observers [...]
McNabb Headed to St. Louis?
According to a report from the Birds’ Eye View, Philadelphia Inquirer’s Eagles blog, Donovan McNabb could be the new quarterback for the St. Louis Rams “by the end of the day, possibly by the end of the week.” This rumor surfaces only a few weeks after Seattle’s reported interest in obtaining the veteran quarterback; it was rumored that the Seahawks would have to surrender at least one of their first-round selections to obtain McNabb. According to the Inquirer, the Rams would receive McNabb in exchange for a second-round pick (33rd overall) and free safety Oshiomogho Atogwe. The same report, however, [...]
2010 NFL Mock Draft 2.0
Pick Team Player Selected Player’s Position Player’s School Analysis 1. Sam Bradford Quarterback Oklahoma Ready to move in a new direction, the Rams select the new face of their franchise. 2. Russell Okung Offensive Tackle Oklahoma State Defensive tackle is an option here, but the Lions opt to protect last year’s investment (Stafford). 3. Ndamukong Suh Defensive Tackle Nebraska The Bucs are thrilled to have their choice between the top two defensive tackles available. 4. Bryan Bulaga Offensive Tackle Iowa Quarterback is a possibility, but the Redskins go with a bigger need: the offensive line. 5. Eric Berry Safety Tennessee [...]
Cory Redding Signs With Baltimore
Cory Redding has signed a two-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens after spending one season in Seattle. Redding was acquire from the Detroit Lions last year in exchange for linebacker Julian Peterson; his contract was later restructured to a one-year deal that made him eligible for free agency this offseason. This deal doesn’t come as a surprise, but only thins the depth even more at defensive end. It is quite obvious the Seahawks will spend at least a pick or two on defensive linemen in April’s draft – the defensive ends currently on the roster are Chris Clemons, Lawrence Jackson, [...]
Give Whitehurst a Chance
A lot of people sure are angry with Seattle’s front office right now. Some folks have even declared the Whitehurst acquisition as the “worst trade in Seattle history.” Worst trade? Really? Whitehurst is an unknown at the professional level. And because of his tender, the San Diego Chargers were due a third-round pick as compensation if he signed elsewhere – the Seahawks gave up much more than that to acquire him. The frustration and confusion is somewhat justified. But you can’t consider it the “worst trade” in Seattle sports history. Not even close! I wouldn’t even consider it the worst [...]
Other Opinions About Whitehurst
A couple have days have passed since the acquisition of Charlie Whitehurst, and shock has been replaced with thorough opinion. Below are some excerpts from Seahawks blogs around the web; you’ve had some time to think, how do you feel about the Whitehurst trade? While John Morgan from Field Gulls agrees that adding a quarterback is a very encouraging step, he isn’t sold on the deal yet: Seattle became the first team I can remember that signed a tendered player and agreed to trade more than the original tender in exchange. Multiple quarterbacks changed hands before the Seahawks signed Whitehurst, [...]
Cautiously Optimistic About Whitehurst
I know the Seattle Seahawks gave up a lot for Charlie Whitehurst. I know that he is an unknown commodity and the Seahawks probably overpaid to obtain his services. And I think that is why I’m so optimistic that this deal will work out. Back in 2001, I attended the home opener against the Philadelphia Eagles at Husky Stadium. It was the first NFL action following the tragedies on September 11, and fans in Seattle were anxious to get their first look at Matt Hasselbeck, Mike Holmgren’s hand-picked quarterback. I was a big proponent of acquiring Hasselbeck. I didn’t know [...]
