Seattle Seahawks Interested In Kevin Kolb, Not McNabb

The Seattle Seahawks have been grabbing headlines across the blogosphere since ESPN analyst Sal Paolantonio broke the news they were constantly pestering the Philadelphia Eagles in regards to quarterbacks Donovan McNabb and Kevin Kolb.

It is now being reported that the Seahawks are not seriously interested in obtaining McNabb, but rather are centering their attention on Kevin Kolb. This makes complete sense, Kolb is someone who could be regarded as a quarterback of the future, whilst McNabb is an aging veteran akin to current Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. A deal for Kolb would allow the Seahawks to continue to utilize Hasselbeck until they see fit to part ways with the franchises most successful signal caller.

Now NFL Network writer Jason La Canfora is reporting the Philadelphia Eagles have set the bounty they want in return for Kolb at two first round picks. This is similar to the haul the Denver Broncos received for then Pro Bowl quarterback Jay Cutler from the Chicago Bears, (albeit a bit less, Denver also obtained a third round pick and Kyle Orton while dealing a fifth round pick).

If the Eagles stick true to that asking price, they are sending a strong signal to the rest of the league that unless you bust the door down with an irrefutable offer, Kolb is not for sale.

Don’t expect Seattle to be bidding anywhere near that for Kolb when they are reluctant to even fork over one of their first round picks for Brandon Marshall.

The far more likely scenario is the Seahawks sign Derek Anderson to be the backup quarterback, Anderson is currently visiting with the Seahawks. He played his college football at Oregon State, making the northwest a geographical pull for him.

Restricted free agent Charlie Whitehurst is also visiting the Seahawks, his tender would cost the Seahawks a third round pick. Considering we don’t have one due to trading up in the third round in the 2009 draft to pick Deon Butler, it impossible for them to currently sign him to an offer sheet.

An interesting rumor conjured by NFL Network says the Seahawks are currently working on acquiring a third round pick, intriguing, any guess as to we would be getting a third for?

Another pair of options on the open market include former Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme and Rams quarterback Marc Bulger. Delhomme has had the more successful career of the two, including a pair of NFC Championship appearances, but seems to be poised to land a starting job with the Cleveland Browns.

Bulger has the allure of familiarity having been a division rival of the Seattle Seahawks his entire tenure as a starter.

It simply depends on what Carroll wants from his backup quarterback, Delhomme, Bulger, Whitehurst, and Anderson all bring a different set of tools along with them. Depending on what happens with his visit to the Cleveland Browns, you can probably cross Delhomme off the list soon.

Sam Bradford is all but signed and delivered to the St. Louis Rams, this won’t change without something dramatic occurring. Unless the Seahawks are enamored with Jimmy Clausen as their next franchise quarterback, expect at least one veteran to be plucked off the open market.
