5 Things I Realize after Sunday’s Game

Make no mistake. Leon Washington won that game against the Chargers. There were other bright spots such as the 2 picks by Earl Thomas and the somewhat consistent pressure on Phillip Rivers. The Seattle defense collected a total of 4 sacks on Sunday, 2 for Clemons and 1 for Mebane and Brock.

There were times, however, when the Chargers’ receivers were so wide open I wondered if the Seattle defense was even on the field. What defensive play was that? The Cover 5? I get the “bend don’t break” theory of defense, but that was ridiculous. As good as the defense looked in the first half, they looked terrible in the second half giving up 328 passing yards and 19 first downs. The offense did not help at all by gaining a meager 4 yards passing and a single first down over the course of the final 30 minutes.

What I realized after this game:
1. Trufant makes a difference which was evidenced after his departure in the 2nd half.
2 Pete Carroll forgets that he is not at USC as evidenced by his ridiculous call at the end of the first half.
3. The offense cannot win a game on its own.
4. Earl Thomas has more gifts than Santa Clause on Christmas Eve.
5. Leon Washinton, single-handedly, won the game for the Hawks.
