If you haven’t, check it out after the jump. Tony Dungy calls the Seattle Seahawks the “best team in the NFC.” Immediately following his statement, both Dan Patrick and Rodney Harrison drown his opinion with laughter and criticism.

I can’t say I completely agree with Tony Dungy, but the Seahawks are an improving football team capable of winning their division. At this point, would it be too much to expect a home playoff game this season?

Either way, it is always nice to hear someone with a national perspective praise the Seahawks for their accomplishments. Regardless of Dungy’s opinion, however, a champion is never crowned by talking heads on the television. The Seahawks must continue to improve and win football games every Sunday.

What do you think of Tony Dungy’s bold opinion?

Raheem Brock really needs to work on his acting.

Late in Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, Brock was flagged for a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. The penalty was called because Brock was apparently taunting Arizona quarterback Derek Anderson.

After coming together at the sidelines following a play, Anderson brushed against Brock while returning to his huddle. Attempting to exaggerate the force applied by Arizona’s quarterback, Brock threw himself backwards and onto the ground. I’m pretty sure he also held his hands up as if he were attempting to draw a penalty.

Despite Brock’s obvious flop, the officials were not fooled. Flags were thrown in his area and he was penalized for taunting the opponent.

The penalty was somewhat absurd. Brock, however, still needs to show a little more discipline on the field. According to Brock, he only told Anderson he was “pretty fast for a QB.” The obvious flop, however, is probably what warranted a penalty.

The Seattle Seahawks have proven themselves to be legitimate competitors in their division of the NFC. They may not be a dominant team, but they’re growing, improving, and definitely capable of earning a playoff berth.

The Seahawks are 3-0 at home for the first time since 2005 and have a signature win on the road against Chicago. Winning additional road games shouldn’t be necessary for Seattle; Qwest Field is a dominant home-field advantage and expecting seven or eight wins in Seattle is more than reasonable. A record above .500 should be enough for the Seahawks to sneak into the playoffs out of the NFC West.

Did anyone see this coming? This team has exceeded all of my expectations, and we are not even half-way through the 2010 football season.

Whatever Pete Carroll and John Schneider are doing, I’m in. Competition? Sold. Win Forever? I’m a believer.

12. Continuing their partisan bickering, Dino Rossi and Patty Murray struggle to jointly raise the 12th man flag, fighting for control of the rope while their aides make statements blaming the other for its slow rise. Seahawks fans write in Chuck Knox on their ballots.

11. After watching Matt Hasselbeck throws three touchdown passes in the 1st half, Larry Fitzgerald demands a trade to the Hawks midway through the 2nd quarter.

10. Thanks to the new law allowing police greater powers to detain suspected illegal immigrants, local cops in Arizona interrupt the Cardinals’ game with the Seahawks to detain Arizona defensive back Hamza Abdullah.

9. You never know when Marshawn Lynch is going to unleash the beast, unfortunately for shoppers it was at a the Southcenter Mall. In the melee The Beast ran for 400 yards, injured 14, and in Macy’s alone, broke seven tackles before being brought down by security. When asked for comment, mall security said it was the most devastating combination of speed and power they’d ever seen.

8. With his public image steadily deteriorating, Brett Farve finds himself craving the adoration of fans and mistakenly does the Lambeau leap into the stands at Lambeau Field after throwing a touchdown pass to Randy Moss. It doesn’t end well.

7. Brett drops his unlimited minutes package and returns to T-Mobile’s “Family Plan.”

There has been a lot of coverage this week on big hits around the National Football League, so I should point out that Bennett’s hit was legal and did not appear to be malicious.
“We think Jon’s going to be all right,” Carroll told the media yesterday. “The docs thought he was going to be able to make it for the week. He’s pretty banged up.”

Even though he might be hurt, it is just good news that his injury is nothing serious. If you missed the big hit, check out the video below (after jump).

Had I posted anything, it would have been focused on impending doom and gloom. Playing on the road, I expected the Seattle Seahawks to get bludgeoned by the Bears at Soldier Field.

The Chicago Bears were 4-1 entering Sunday’s game against the Seahawks. The Seahawks, 2-2 prior to the matchup, had yet to win a game outside of Qwest Field.

In two away games, the Seahawks had only scored 17 points. Their average margin of defeat on the road was 17 points per game. Losing by an average of three scores is bad, but box scores didn’t justify what really happened – the Seahawks were easily disposed of by opposing teams away from Qwest.

Was there any reason to think the Seattle Seahawks could beat the Chicago Bears on the road? Through the first quarter of the 2010 NFL season, the Bears were one of the better teams in the NFC.

History wasn’t on Seattle’s side, either.

Forsett looked better as a compliment back than he has as the featured back. Where Lynch will hit a defender like a hammer, Forsett prefers a lighter, more shifty approach. As a result the defense must make major adjustments concerning the approach and tackling of these vastly different running backs. Together Lynch and Forsett rushed for 111 yards on 27 carries. Lynch was averaging 5.4 ypc at the end of the 1st qtr. and really helped establish the threat of a run, a convenience Matt Hasselbeck has not had for some time

Yesterday, the Seattle Seahawks traded wide receiver Deion Branch to the New England Patriots for a fourth-round pick. Not a conditional late-round pick or garbage compensation, but a fourth-round pick.

What a coup for General Manager John Schneider and Seattle’s front office.

When the Deion Branch-to-New England rumors first started, it was assumed Seattle would receive no more than a late-round pick in any trade. Considering Randy Moss was just acquired by the Minnesota Vikings for a third-round pick, anything more than a sixth- or seventh-round pick would be ludicrous; Moss dwarves Branch in career accomplishments, late-career potential, physical size, overall skills.

Seattle’s incentive to trade Branch was to get the younger receivers more opportunity to play. Branch hasn’t been dominating or overly effective, so his exit only means players like Deon Butler and Golden Tate will receive additional opportunities on the field.

Like Houshmandzadeh’s departure, this deal is like addition by subtraction for the Seahawks.
