A late congratulations to Leon Washington for signing a four-year, 12.5 million dollar contract. Although it’s far less than what he was offered as a Jet prior to his injury, it is still one hell of a comeback. Washington’s speed and great hands will be an exciting addition for a team that finished 31st in rushing last season. I especially like how elusive he is even at high speeds. He has a crafty style and is not afraid to bring a run back inside and pick up extra yards rather than just running out of bounds. Grit with talent. This is a [...]
Rule Changes
The NFL has enacted new rules that will take effect at the beginning of next season, whenever that may be. There will be teams, coaches and players as well as know-it-all bloggers like myself decrying and/or applauding these changes. Here’s my take. One of the main changes involves instant replay. Every scoring play will now be reviewed by the replay official. Coaches will no longer have to use one of their challenges on these plays. I really like this change. Teams used to hurry their kicking teams onto the field after potentially questionable scores so that they could kick the [...]
The Biggest Ripoff in Professional Sports
Watching the owners and players bicker back and forth about all the money being generated by the NFL and who should get how much, it made me laugh and sickened me at the same time. I have no sympathy when billionaires and millionaires complain about their piece of the pie. So who should make concessions? How about both sides?! How about giving the FANS some financial concessions?! There is blatant thievery occurring in the NFL every season, and both the owners and players are in on it. For those of you who, like me, are a season ticket holder for [...]
Is it OK That Matt Hasselbeck is NOT a Hawk?
Matt Hasselbeck has done more for his franchise than any other quarterback in Seahawks history. He has won games nobody expected him to. He led this franchise into and during its most prolific years. He is as fierce a competitor as they come. And he has been The Hawks’ quarterback for an entire decade. So why is it ok that the Seahawks didn’t sign him before the work stoppage? Sure it’s easy to remember his heroic game against the Saints as well as a great performance in Chicago despite the loss, yet it’s also hard to forget his tendency to throw [...]
How the Seahawks May Benefit From the Lockout
Now that the CBA has expired, no negotiating, no signing of free agents, and no trades involving players can be done. This may actually work to the Seahawks’ advantage if no agreement is reached by the time the NFL Draft takes place. In a normal year, we would be right in the middle of free agency. The marquee players would have signed the big contracts, and teams would be filling needs with whatever players they can entice to sign with them. In a few weeks, teams would begin focusing on the draft, looking to fill holes they couldn’t fix with [...]
A Different Vote for Offensive MVP goes to . . .
The only person even close to deserving being named offensive MVP is the only person besides Jon Ryan who merited Pro Bowl consideration. That person is Leon Washington. Riley is like a brother to me, but I thought he was way off base with his choice of Matt Hasselbeck. The offense this past season was the worst it may have ever been with Hasselbeck under center. He must bear a good portion of the responsibility for that. Hasselbeck did have some very good games, notably the regular season wins at Chicago and Arizona and both games against New Orleans. However, [...]
3 Perspectives on the CBA Negotiations
Sorry for the long length of time between posts. I took a little vacation and it turned into a big one. Well here we are in the middle of an extension concerning the CBA talks, and I am starting to get nervous. The Seahawks had an incredible end to an exciting season that proved to be more than a rebuilding year. Fans can’t wait for free agency, the draft, training camp, and the regular season to start again… but I am not so sure the players or the owners are. Here is a brief perspective on the owners, the players, [...]
