Intuitively, I’d like to believe that the game after the bye week should be one of the easiest games of the season to win. There’s an extra week to game plan and extra week to practice and prepare. There is also a chance to get rested and healthy.
And yet, the Seahawks have won just 6 out of their last 22 games when coming out of the bye. One my my biggest criticisms of Mike Holmgren during his time in Seattle was his inability to properly use the bye week. His teams were just 2-8 after the bye, and most of those teams were playoff teams.
There have only been 2 coaches in Seahawks history who have won their first game following a bye, and there are only 2 coaches who have winning records in game’s following bye weeks. In both of those cases, the coaches are Dennis Erickson and Pete Carroll.
