Know Your Enemy: Philadelphia Eagles

AUTHOR: | IN: Seahawks | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Each week, I interview a blogger that covers the the team that the Seahawks are covering. This week, I was lucky enough to get Mark from Birdsfan.com. 1) It appears Reid picked the right QB out of the McNabb, Kolb, Vick trio, but with Vick comes injuries because of his style of play. How are the Eagles fans handling the situation at QB? Eagles fans know that Vick is a high risk, high reward type player.  If you look at his career, it’s very unusual for him to play in every game.  He’s taken a lot of hits and kept going, but he’s [...]

Sydney Rice Headed to IR

AUTHOR: | IN: Seahawks | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The Seahawks have not made it official yet, but wide receiver Sydney Rice is going to be placed on injured reserve today. Rice suffered his 2nd concussion in 2 weeks on Sunday. He was expected to be out 2-4 weeks, but that was before team doctors had a chance to evaluate the severity of the concussion. Because this concussion was the 2nd one in just 2 weeks, the league’s protocol calls for the team and player to act very conservatively. Rice was likely to be held out longer than he normally would have. It would appear that after the initial evaluation [...]

Make The Right Call

AUTHOR: | IN: Seahawks | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The Seattle Seahawks are not going to make the playoffs. That statement hardly comes as a shock to Seahawks fans.  There was a possibility, though remote, that the Seahawks could have made a playoff run.  They had a favorable schedule against opponents that have a lot of issues.  It was improbable, but still possible.  Even though they aren’t officially eliminated from playoff contention, last Sunday’s loss to the Washington Redskins ended Seattle’s playoff aspirations for all intents and purposes. Now Pete Carroll can make the decision he should have made a couple of weeks ago, a decision that he doesn’t [...]

NFL Power Rankings

AUTHOR: | IN: Seahawks | COMMENTS: None Yet

No changes to the formula this week. I haven’t had time to work on any of my analysis, so I don’t have any more info than last time and thus there’s no reason to make changes. There’s no changes in the top 5 this week. Interestingly, Houston remains on top despite no Matt Shaub and losing Matt Leinart midway through the game. I expect them to begin dropping now that they have problems at QB. I’m a little surprised that Chicago didn’t drop after their sad showing on Sunday. Our Seahawks remain at #20 despite the loss to Washington. I [...]

The Quarterback Scenario

AUTHOR: | IN: Seahawks | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

The more I watch TJack play, the easier it is to reach two conclusions: He’s more hurt that anyone wants to admit and he’s not getting any better Clipboard Charlie is so risky that we’re not willing to put him in, even knowing TJack’s lack of function. How did we get to this point? Let’s see…We picked up Charlie on speculation two years ago, because he looked good on paper. As a paper QB, we likely gave San Diego far too much for him (a conclusion we’ve reached two years later), but with Seneca moving to the Browns to play [...]

Seahawks Report Card For Week 12

AUTHOR: | IN: Seahawks | COMMENTS: None Yet

As I said in my post game report, this game was really frustrating. There is just no excuse for losing to an inferior team when you have a 10 point lead with 10 minutes to go. At least in the Cleveland game, they were without their starting QB, RB, TE, C, and WR on offense, so of course the offense struggled. What’s happened here? The Seahawks came out of the game a week ago relatively healthy. Unfortunately, the Seahawks looked unprepared and undisciplined. Lets get to the grades: Tarvaris Jackson: D+ I feel a bit bad for grading Jackson down [...]

From Section 333

AUTHOR: | IN: Seahawks | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Losing sucks. I usually handle a Seahawks loss by mentally huddling up and not talking about the game for at least 24 hours. And no, it’s not like processing time, it’s more like grieving my way through the aftermath. I avoid reading media reports and after a few supportive tweets to players, I bail on Twitter for as long as it takes to recover. In a way, I’m insulating myself from the negativity. I hear the comments in the stands about which players suck and how coaching is substandard. I hear the post-game commentary on the way home about how [...]

An Agonizing Defeat

AUTHOR: | IN: Seahawks | COMMENTS: None Yet

In the aftermath of today’s crushing 23-17 loss to the Washington Redskins, it’s becoming evident that the Seattle Seahawks are a team that can’t stand prosperity.  Winning this game would have given the Seahawks their first three game winning streak in four seasons.  Despite being badly outplayed in the first half, the game was tied at seven.  The Seahawks competed like they have for most of the season and gritted their way to a 17-7 lead, only to see themselves collapse on both sides of the ball and fall to a 4-7 record. This game reminded me of a game [...]

Redskins Top Seahawks: 23-17

AUTHOR: | IN: Seahawks | COMMENTS: None Yet

These are the must frustrating types of games. I’ve had to wait several hours since the game ended in order to be able to write up a semi-coherent game summary. The Seahawks lost a game to an inferior team, and blew a 10 point 4th quarter lead in doing so. In my mind, this game, and not the Cleveland game, is the worst loss of the year. I really hope it can’t get any worse than this. Rather than sit here and rant until I start foaming at the mouth, I’ll just jump to my game notes. I hope that you don’t [...]

First Round QBs In The NFL Draft

AUTHOR: | IN: Seahawks | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

While watching both Andrew Luck and Matt Barkley play last night, I decided to look back at the success rate of the QBs who were drafted in 1st round of the NFL draft over the last 10 years. The results are pretty disturbing. I split them into 2 groups, successes and busts. (I know that a binary grouping system isn’t very scientific, but it works for this since I this isn’t meant to be a scientific study.) The success rate is pretty low, too low for my taste. Top 5: 61% success rate (8 of 13) 6-20: 57% (4 of 7) [...]
