The NFL announced today that John Moffitt has been suspended for 4 games for violating the performance-enhancing drug policy. Moffitt, an offensive guard was the Seahawks 3rd round pick in last April’s draft. He started the first 10 games of the season before suffering a season ending knee injury.
Oddly, Moffitt will not miss any games because of this suspension. League rules allow players to serve their suspension while on injured reserve. Moffitt will be able serve his entire suspension this season while recovering from knee surgery. The only thing effected by this suspension is Moffitt’s wallet. Moffitt will not get paid for the 4 games while he’s suspended.
Moffitt is only the 2nd player in franchise history to fail a drug test of this type. There have been a few players who’ve been suspended under the substance abuse policy, but only Moffitt and former CB Shawn Springs have ever failed a test for performance enhancing drugs.
