Should Seahawks Trade For Kellen Winslow

Should the Hawks trade for Winslow? Credit: Jake Roth-US PRESSWIRE

Tampa Bay confirmed today that they are trying to trade Kellen Winslow. The Mercurial TE is available for some unknown level of draft pick compensation. The Seahawks could use another TE, so should they begin talks with the Bucs?

The answer to that question is a resounding “no.”

Winslow is a remarkable athlete. He’s big, strong, fast; everything you’d want from a TE physically. He’s the type of unique athlete that Pete Carroll covets. Yet there’s a reason why he’s available. With his athletic skills he should be dominant. Yet both the Bucs and the Browns have managed to get rid of him as quickly as possible.

Winslow is the offensive version of Aaron Curry. He’s the ultimate underachiever; never able to get his head out of the way so his body can perform.

Lets face it, Winslow isn’t the answer. The Seahawks are better off keeping their draft picks.

Couldn’t agree with you more! I remember when his dad took over on his draft status and was saying he isn’t going here or there, turning it into a racial issue. As great a player as he was (SR.) I lost all respect for him after that. Wonder if some of the same mental opinions and such are JR.’s issue?

John Schneider doesn’t agree with you apparently.

Hawks signed this trouble maker for a conditional 6/7 draft choice.  Paul Silvi said this guy was TB leading receiver the last 3 years.  TB just gave him away.  I’d rather the Hawks get a TE who can block and free up Zack Miller who was a Pro Bowl selection in 2011 as opposed to Winslow’s 2008 selection.  Winslow won’t be factor in the running game.  Starting to wonder about Carroll/Schneider.

Hope this doesn’t come back to bite Them. Maybe the team will get lucky and he has matured and learned from all the moving and obvious discontent with him.

Just a bit baffled at all your comments not to mention this article in general. True Jr. has had his issues with attitude throughout his career. That said a receiving threat with the ability to create mismatches like he can for a 6th/7th round pick? To me this is a low risk/ high reward move by our front office. Anyone think for a moment that PC won’t cut this guy if he doesn’t buy in? Remember Lendale White? Lets take an honest look at this move.

    1. You can always use another proven weapon on offense.
    2. Now we have the ability to do some of the things you see the Pats do with 2 TE’s.
    3. We will be paying him a reasonable price for a TE with his ability.
    4. He is under contract for 3 years.
    5. If at any point he doesn’t work out during the 3 years we can cut him without cap penalty. (huge)

To me this shows me our Front office is working well. This was a extremely smart move with a low risk. If he is a bust we only gave up a 7th round pick. If he blows the doors off we pay a 6th round pick. I am at a loss here guys… What’s not to like about this move?

@Thoder Agree completely,  BUT My main concern is he has caused issues in the past @ Cleveland & Tampa. So if none of that , then yea Great move. Plus as you say a 7th or 6th if it goes great!
