Seahawks Said No To Hard Knocks

HBOs yearly look inside an NFL training camp isn’t coming to Seattle. HBO asked the Seahawks if they would like to be this year’s spotlight, and the Seahawks politely declined. This decision makes me very very happy.

Don’t get me wrong. I’d have loved the coverage if the Seahawks had said yes. Definitely would have DVR’d every episode and probably watched each one 2 or 3 times. But like I said, I’m glad the Seahawks said no.

The thing is, Hard Knocks is a major distraction. The Seahawks don’t need that distraction. They’re a very young team that still learning how to play football at this level. They need to be fully locked in to getting ready for the season, not worrying about where that cameras are pointed.

The teams that have been a part of it, the Coyboys, Jets and Bangals, are the attention whores of the league. When the Chiefs and Ravens took part, I thought the series might become more mainstream, but it never happened. Recent iterations have been ever worse. I just don’t want my Seahawks to be like that. I want them to be about quality football and winning, not about glamor, attention and placating diva personalities.

In the end, I think Pete Carroll said it best:

“That’s just not going to suit what we’re trying to get done here. I think it’s a great show, I love watching it, I loved Rex (and) the Bengals.”

“I just don’t want to put that in the middle of our process. We’re trying to win football games and hopefully we can entertain that way than rather on the show. It’s just not our style here.”
