Former Seahawk Robert Gallery Retires

The New England Patriots announced that Guard Robert Gallery has decided to retire.

Gallery was the #2 overall pick out of college, but never lived up to the draft position as a tackle. He moved inside to guard under Tom Cable, and had a bit of a career resurgence at his new position.

Gallery was signed by the Seahawks before the 2011 season to be the veteran presence along their very young defensive line. Gallery battled injuries early in the season, but managed to get healthy and was very strong for the 2nd half of the year.

When the Seahawks released Gallery early in the offseason it was a surprising move, but now their reasoning might be a bit clearer.

Gallery apparently told Patriot head coach Bill Bellicheck that he didn’t feel that his body could stand up to the wear and tear.
