Breaking: Seattle Seahawks Trade For Percy Harvin

Nothing is official until tomorrow, but every major media outlet has confirmed that the Seahawks and Vikings have agreed to term that will send star wide receiver Percy Harvin to the Seahawks.

It is still unclear what compensation the Seahawks have sent in the other direction. A draft pick is almost certainly included. If no players are headed to Minnesota, than I’m assuming at Seattle 1st round pick is included until I’m told otherwise.

In fact, as I’m writing this, this came across my screen:

So it would seem that the Seahawk’s first round pick is included in the trade.

Other potential compensation would include Brandon Browner or Golden Tate. Both are entering the final year of their contract and unlikely to be retained by the Seahawks after this next season. It is also possible that Sydney Rice is included, but only because of his salary.

Speaking of Rice, if neither he nor Tate are included in this trade, it is possible that Rice is cut, or asked to take a pay cut. Seattle is unlikely to carry 2 high priced receivers for longer than 2013 season.

And while we’re on the topic of contracts, Harvin will be getting a new one, and that also appears to be completed.

Harvin is just 24 years old, and is considered to be one of the most explosive players in the NFL. This is a deal that will make the Seahawks much better on offense, so matte what the price turns out to be.

Great move for the Hawks…Give up a first round (plus tbd) in a weak draft and get an impact, potential mvp caliber player…no brainer…great move front office! 30 other NFL teams kicking walls right now…

no WR in this draft class is even close to Harvin’s skill set. This was a tremendous “get” for Schneider.

WOW. That’s all I can think to say. WOW. Dynamic player. Another weapon for Russell. Defenses are going to going to nuts trying to contain Russell, Lynch and Harvin. I have been a jaded Seahawks fan for too long and never thought something like this was possible. Might have to re-calibrate my expectations. WOW

expectations for the team will never be higher than they are right now. it’s going to be a crazy year.

OMG so happy right now! I think Rice has to be retained though, seriously. If I were to guess a guy is gone, it’d be Browner. With Jeremy Lane showing out for a few games this year I’d be SHOCKED if Browner weren’t the guy.

    • 12thMan_Rising

Browner only make just over 500k right now. Rice would be going because of his contract. This isn’t a skill for skill decision.

  • Marc Edge

why would Browner not be re-signed? Tate I can see, especially after this trade.

    • 12thMan_Rising

cost. can’t afford to pay Browner and Sherman both the massive contract they’ll deserve.

So who goes? Baldwin is the slot guy and isn’t Harvin a slot guy? Rice or Tate if Harvin goes to the outside? Do the Hawks look for a trade or just cut someone?

    • 12thMan_Rising

likely all 4 come back this year. Tate and Baldwin lose snaps depending on where Harvin lines up. There’s room for all of them on the roster. Rice and Harvins contracts are both large though. that might be the deciding factor in the long term.
