Seahawks should develop throwback uniform for 40th anniversary

The Seahawks already have one of the coolest uniforms in the NFL, but wouldn’t it be awesome to see the team re-create their classic old-school look for the franchise’s 40th anniversary?

Yes, I know that doesn’t come until 2016, but I’m bringing it up now because developing the entire uniform could take awhile.

Seattle was fortunate to have a classic look as soon as the franchise began in 1976, a signature look that remained relatively unchanged until only about a decade ago.

The original silver helmet, blue jersey, and silver pants scheme looked like this:

Many Seahawk greats played the game with these uniforms on, including Dave Krieg, Kenny Easley, Cortez Kennedy and Steve Largent among many others.

Seattle’s franchise has only made major changes to their uniforms twice, once in 2002 with the uniforms they took to Super Bowl XL and again in 2012 with the uniforms they took to Super Bowl XLVIII.

A number of NFL teams have begun creating retro uniforms for symbolic games and other special occasions. The Seahawks should represent their history with a throwback of their own.

Can you imagine Russell Wilson in an old school jersey? He might look something like this:

What are your thoughts, 12′s?

Would you like to see the Seahawks start wearing a throwback uniform on special occasions?

I’ve been a 12 since 76 so I love throwbacks. Current day uniforms are still the coolest in the NFL and Ever. More Wolf grey less white I say

I think I would prefer throwbackesk, rather than an exact copy of the throwback. Maybe a mirrored silver helmet, and a blend of the modern uniform schemes with the original uniform colors and details (like the ‘Hawk-bands around the arms).

    It was 2006.

These throwback concept uniforms would be fantastic! I love the shiny silver paint helmet with the old logo. Let’s keep the pressure on the ‘Hawks brass and see if we can make this happen. #12For12s #GoHawks

The main problem with that is the NFL won’t allow teams to have two different helmets, and I don’t know if it’s feasible to use the current helmets in a throwback. It would be cool, though.

Besides the NFL not allowing teams more than one helmet, no team can change it’s uniforms for 5 years after adopting a new look. So the Hawks couldn’t adopt this look for their 40th anniversary, because that falls at year four after they changed to the new look. So if they did do a throwback, it would be in use for 5 years before they could switch back.
