A Look Back on a Tremondous Season by the Seattle Seahawks
Sunday is the day that the football sports world has been waiting for. The Seattle Seahawks and Patriots are the envy of the entire league. Especially the Seahawks, since this will be their second time in 2 seasons attending back to back Super Bowls. They’re the first team to do that since the New England Patriots in 10 years ago.
But it wasn’t an easy task getting back to the first place podium.
In week 1, Seattle took on the Packers and won the season opener is dramatic fashion. The memories of last season were brought back to life with the unveiling of the championship banner celebrating Seattle’s first title. They started the season the same way they finished, with a blowout victory of 36-16. Lynch ran for 110 yards and two touchdowns, Harvin got touches as a reciever, running back and returner, had 100 combined yards rushing and receiving. Wilson finished 19 of 28 for 191 yards. (1-0)
In week 2, they played the San Diego Chargers hard but lost the game 30-21. Although, Seattle was efficient when they had the ball, but it wasn’t enough because the Chargers dominated time of possession and wore out the Seahawks’ defense. San Diego had the ball for 42:15 compared to 17:45 for Seattle, and gained 26 first downs to the 14 for the Seahawks. Seattle turned the ball over on downs on its 10 in the closing minutes of the game and San Diego’s Nick Novak kicked his third field goal from 28 yards, with 16 seconds left. (1-1)
In week 3, the Denver Broncos lost to the ‘Hawks 26-20 in overtime. The 43-8 blowout by Seattle was replaced this time by Denver coming back from a 14 point defcit heading into the fourth-quarter to force overtime. Wilson finished 24 of 34 for 258 yards. (2-1)
In week 4, they rested.
In week 5, they defeated the Washington Redskins 27-17. Russell Wilson has the best rushing performance of his career picking up 122 yards. (3-1)
In week 6, the Cowboys came in to CenturyLink and beat the Seahawks 30-23. Russell Wilson finished 14 of 28 for 128 yards. Marshawn Lynch only had 10 touches for 61 yards, while all three of Percy Harvin’s completions were negative and gained no yards. (3-2)
In week 7, the Hawks traveled to St. Louis hoping to bounce back from the crazy loss had occured the week before. Unfortunately, they failed and lost 28-26. Wilson rushed for 106 yards on seven carries and also passed for two touchdowns while going 23 for 36 for 313 yards making him the first quarterback in NFL history with 300 yards passing and 100 yards rushing. Everyone though something was wrong with the Seahawks because of the back to back losses. But they quickly snapped out of it and went on a 3 game winning streak.
In week 8, Russell Wilson and the Seahawks flew to see the Panthers and while they were there, they handed them a 13-9 loss. (4-3)
In week 9, the Raiders made a trip to CenturyLink and lost the the Seahawks 30-24. (5-3)
In week 10, the Seahawks handed a loss the the New York Giants as well with the score of 38-17. (6-3)
In week 11, the winning streak ended with Alex Smith and the Kansas City Chiefs with a score of 24-20. Russell Wilson threw for 178 yards and two TDs for the Seahawks, and Marshawn Lynch had 124 yards rushing. (6-4)
In week 12, was where they picked up a second wind of energy and went on the win out the rest of the season, starting with Cardinals. They beat the Cardinals 19-3. (7-4)
In week 13, the Seahawks defeated the 49ers 19-3. (8-4)
In week 14, the Eagles tried their hand at the defending SuperBowl Champs and lost 24-14. (9-4)
In week 15, the 49ers tried the beat Seattle again and failed 17-7. (10-4)
In week 16, the Seahawks met the Cardinals in another matchup and came out victorious with a 35-6 win. (11-4)
In week 17, the rematch against the St. Louis Rams resulted in favor of Seattle with a 20-6 outcome. (12-4)
That 12-4 record propelled them into the playoffs yet again and they plaed the Carolina Panthers in the NFC Divisional Round. They went on to defeat the Cam Newton 38-17. That win moved them to the next round which was the NFC Championship game against the preseason NFC favorite Packers. That game will go down in NFL history as one of the greatest comebacks to ever happened. The Seahawks forced overtime with a fake punt from Jon Ryan to Gary Gilliam for a touchdown. They went on to win the coin toss and score a touchdown by the hands of Jermaine Kearse.
Now the biggest game of the season against the biggest name of the AFC: New England Patriots. Super Bowl 49 takes place Sunday evening at 6:30 in Glendale, Arizona. The Seahawks will come out victorious again and go back to Seattle holding the Lombardi Trophy once again.
