Oh boy, it didn’t take long.

The Seattle Seahawks, outside of Hawk nation, are not a well liked team. At first glance this news may seem like a downer. Teams like Dallas, New England, San Francisco, they are the hated ones. Not the Seahawks.

After some reflection, however, I concluded that this Seahawks team has so many reasons for detractors to be hate-filled:

More from Seattle Seahawks News

1. Pete Carroll – Due to the incredible success the Seahawks have had since Carroll arrived, we often forget the mess he left in Los Angeles. To be fair, Carroll made USC a national power in college football. To be blunt, he is a big reason the Trojans have been a shell of what they were from 2002 to 2009. Carroll lost many fans once he landed in Seattle.

2. LOB – Imagine having to hear about Seattle’s great defense every day on NFL Live (ESPN). Every time your favorite team plays Seattle the story is how great these guys are. If you’re a 49ers fan that’s one storyline that would wear out its welcome fast. Heck, Richard Sherman alone brings out massive frustration.

3. The 12th Man – Every pregame show I watched last season mentioned how loud and great Seattle’s fan base is. While this is accurate, nobody outside Seahawks nation really cares. Just like LOB, it’s a story that never dies. My hope is to see the Mariners get to the playoffs this year. Safeco will rival the Clink for decibel supremacy. Go to a Seattle Sounders match against Portland. LOUD! Seattle simply has great fans!

4. Russell Wilson – Is this considered blasphemous? Not to start a riot at the 12th Man Rising home office, but Wilson is a hated player. This 3rd rounder who beat out a highly regarded veteran during the 2012 training camp is just solid. Think about how frustrating it is for rival fans to see a sure sack turn into a 30-yard run. Imagine seeing your Packer team, up 16 – 0 at halftime in the NFC title game, lose in OT. You’d probably have some hateful feelings regarding #3 as well.

5. The Beast – To say Marshawn Lynch dominates is, incredibly, an understatement. This guy can do anything Carroll needs him to. Great hands, powerful legs, speed, better than average blocker and an extremely intelligent player. He hurts teams every week with his immense skills. I have no problem with his handling of the media. Lynch will do everything possible for his family, friends and teammates. If he feels betrayed, as is the case with reporters, he puts up a wall. He’s criticized constantly for his handling of the media. My advice, get over it and watch one of the greatest backs of all time in 2015.

It’s inevitable that hatred will follow great teams. Two straight NFC titles with three Super Bowl appearances since 2005. Come February 2016, it’ll be four.

Not bad for a team tucked away in the Pacific Northwest.

Not bad for an NFL franchise period.

Go Hawks!
