With all the rumors swirling around the start of tonight’s NFL Draft, you’d think Kevin Costner was out there somewhere pulling the strings.  Depending on who you believe, multiple players and picks will be on the move, and the Seahawks might be right in the middle off all the mayhem.

SEAHAWKS WHEELING AND DEALING?

After trading their 1st round pick for Jimmy Graham last month, the Hawks are waiting for Friday’s action with picks #63 and #95 in hand, but the “sweet spot” for where this draft lines up with their needs feels like it sits in the upper 2nd and 3rd rounds.  Do they stand pat, take the best player who falls to them in each round, or do they “reach” for guys they’re afraid will be snatched up if they take the patient approach?

Maybe this is the year GM John Schneider goes against type and moves up to get the guys he wants.  He has 11 picks in his pocket, more than any other team in the league.  There’s a group of EDGE types who project to go early in the 2nd round, and Schneider could go up and get one of them for the price of their 2nd and a 4th, or……..

Seahawks Twitter nearly exploded last night with the fast and furious news cycle of a possible Bruce Irvin trade to Atlanta.  First, Ian Rappaport of nfl.com reported that the Hawks wouldn’t be picking up Irvin’s 5th year option.  Within an hour, there was a report of “chatter” between the Falcons and Seahawks involving Irvin.  By the time most of us went to bed the reports were being rebuffed and the local consensus this morning seems to be it’s a dead horse.

But what if there was something to it?  Let’s take a look at the how’s and why’s of a potential Bruce Irvin trade.
