Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Jesse Williams has a new opponent, and it has nothing to do with Football. Instead of fighting for a roster spot, Williams is now fighting for his life.

Jesse Williams found out that he had papillary Type 2 cancer and will be undergoing kidney surgery as announced on Monday, May 18th.

"“Although disappointing, I am a fighter and will handle this,” Williams, 24, said in a statement, via NBC Sports. “I am going to focus on my health and fighting this battle with a return to football as my ultimate goal. Thank you for your thoughts and support. Go Hawks!”"

The 24-year-old Williams was selected by Seattle in the fifth round of the 2013 draft. He has yet to play in an NFL game after knee injuries kept him sidelined through his first two seasons. However he says they were a thing of the past.

After the announcement from the GM and the Seahawks, Williams posted two photos on his Instagram account with the following captions:

“Fire is the test of gold; adversity, of strong men. Appreciate the Support From all Over the World! Ready for What’s Coming, Recovery is up next..#MonstarStrong”

“I Ask Not for a Lighter Burden, but for Broader Shoulders. #FOE #MonstarStrong Don’t Count me out, I Didn’t Come This Far and Push Myself to a Come back from Previous Injuries to Let This a Stop Me. I’ll Be Right Back.”

There are several other NFL players besides his teammates who support him and gave him encouraging words like Mark Ingram: @ThaMonstar praying for my bama brother!! Stay strong, Christ heals!!! I am confident you will overcome this you are a fighter! We got you!” and Chris Long: “Prayers to @ThaMonstar stay strong man”.

The Great Stuart Scott said “You beat cancer by how you live, why you live and in the manner in which you live. So live…live, fight like hell. And when you get too tired, lay down and let somebody else fight for you.”

Let’s help Jesse fight.
