And no, not the OTHER Owens.
The Seahawks have agreed to a deal with tight end John Owens, who has spent the last two seasons in Detroit. I haven’t located any details of the contract, but I’ll post them when they become available.
John Owens, 29 years old, is a nine year veteran in the NFL. He has been declared by many as a “blocking” tight end, and rightfully so; he has only caught 19 passes in his NFL career. The Seahawks were likely attracted to his ability as a blocker, as new offensive coordinator Greg Knapp will emphasize running the football. Knapp is expected to employ more double tight end sets than the previous regime did, and Owens seems like a perfect fit for the role.
