Weaver: Philly Deal Close

As usual, John Clayton visited with Dave “Softy” Mahler on KJR yesterday and talked NFL. Among the topics that came up, one stood out from the rest. According to Clayton, Leonard Weaver is very close to signing a contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, and could’ve signed as early as yesterday. Apparently, Weaver has made visits to Tampa Bay and Philadelphia, and is openly negotiating as the market for fullbacks remains in motion.
Clayton agreed that Seattle is still a possibility for Weaver, but he believes he can get a bigger contract than what the Seahawks are offering. He should receive something respectable, but nothing in excess of $2 million. The Seahawks are prepared to move on, and have other options available. Justin Griffith has yet to receive an offer, but will reportedly sign as soon as he receives one.
Among other things covered, Clayton considers Seattle’s off season thus far as “top 3” in the NFL, and says that Ruskell will give the Russell/Grant safety tandem at least one more year.
