Ready For Carroll

Count me in.

Pass the Kool-Aid.

I’m excited about Pete Carroll being the next head coach of the Seattle Seahawks.

After hearing Carroll’s press conference earlier this week, I’m sold. He managed to motivate the greater Seattle area in less than an hour – he convinced a lot of us that this franchise is capable of winning as early as next season.

Of course, wishful thinking isn’t worth much, and Carroll still has to prove himself on Sundays. But for now, I’m completely on board with Carroll as the next head coach of the Seattle Seahawks.

As I’ve reiterated several times, I didn’t completely agree with Jim Mora’s dismissal after one season. But after the front office made their decision, I was okay with moving in a new direction. After the Seahawks posted a dismal 5-11 record, it was obvious they weren’t going to improve quickly under Mora’s watch.

Once the Pete Carroll rumors started flying, I found myself conflicted: Carroll wasn’t clearly the best option, was he? Seeing Carroll on the sidelines in Seattle colors would take some getting used to; during his tenure at Southern Cal, he was a coach everyone loved to hate.

I was ready to move in a new direction. But a new direction with Pete Carroll? Give me a few days.

Now that I’ve had a week or so to gather myself, I’m on board. I’m excited about Carroll coming to Seattle. I’m ready to see an energized, experienced coaching staff find a way to motivate an underachieving football team. I can’t wait to see the Seattle Seahawks win again.

Although my optimism is late, I’m still a homer at heart. Once Carroll was introduced as the head coach, he was our guy. He was the guy I was going to cheer for every Sunday just because I’m a fan of the Seattle Seahawks.

After hearing the press conference, however, I’m not only supportive, but also excited to see Carroll on the sidelines in Seattle. Listening to the high-energy, fast-talking personality that is Pete Carroll, I was motivated and ready to run through a wall; I hope he has the same success motivating the professional athletes.

What do you think, 12th Man? Are you excited about Pete Carroll in Seattle?
