Seahawks’ Lime-Green Alternates Outdone

facebooktwitterreddit

Remember those lime-green alternates the Seahawks wore last season when they played the Chicago Bears at Qwest Field? Like them or not, the national audience thought they were horrendous.

After a few weeks, the Seahawks announced they would not wear the alternate version again.

Sounders FC, Seattle’s MLS franchise, already wore a similar lime-green uniform. In fact, one could argue that the popularity of Sounders FC apparel caused the Seahawks to explore an alternate lime-green offering. There is no doubt the new jerseys led to increased sales for at least a short period of time.

Seattle’s soccer franchise, however, isn’t finished. The lime-green jerseys worn regularly by the “Fighting Xboxes” isn’t enough. With so much national attention focused on the alternate jerseys donned by the Seahawks last fall, the Sounders had to one-up the local football team.

So Sounders FC decided to debut a lightning-yellow jersey with lime-green trim. Hideous and reminiscent of something a University of Oregon athlete might wear, the new uniforms are the latest alternate jersey in Seattle to torture the eyes of viewers.

Hopefully the Seahawks stand pat and don’t follow this new color scheme.

From SoundersFC.com:

"Bright. Bold. Electric. It’s another opportunity to make a statement about our brand. We’ll use them, not exclusively, but largely in the friendlies and potentially in the Open Cup or Champions League."

The folks at Sounders FC may be excited, but I can’t wait to NOT watch the next soccer match featuring these new jerseys.
