Seattle Seahawks: Sidney Rice Joins Tarvaris Jackson and Darrell Bevell
By author
The Seattle Seahawks have come to terms on a five-year, $44 million contract with Sidney Rice. He will again team up with Tarvaris Jackson and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, looking to bring his contributions in the Minnesota Vikings high-powered offense to Seattle.
It was clear that Seattle was ready to move on from Matt Hasselbeck, but it is yet to be seen how the QB competition between Jackson and Charlie Whitehurst will play out.
However, Jackson’s experience with Bevell’s system and with Rice make him the front runner.
Rice is coming off of a major hip injury, which was his third injury in four seasons. Rice was not a consistent contributor when he did return last season, and didn’t seem to be the same receiver as in 2009…his only solid season.
Rice will be able to assist the rest of the team with Bevell’s offense, but expectations that he will be a true number one receiver should be tempered. He has the tools and was effective when working the Brett Favre and healthy. However, Seattle’s QB situation is about as shaky as Jackson’s health.
Despite the injury history, there is optimism that Rice will excel in Seattle. His size and speed will add a new dimension to the Seahawks’ offense and could help turn the tide in the NFC West.
