Roster Battles: The Offense

facebooktwitterreddit

Tonight’s pre-season game is the last one this year. One last night for 27 players who’ll have to be cut and wont make the team.

Yesterday we broke down the defense and how the roster might shake out, today, lets do the same for the offense.

Tight Ends – 3 spots likely

Locks:

Zach Miller, John Carlson

On The

Bubble:

Dominque Bird, Anthony McCoy, Cameron Morrah

Comments:

Carlson is headed to the DL, so there Miller and 2 more. McCoy made the team last season and did little as he was recovering from a major kne muste injury. Now he’s healthy, so the team must decide if he is worth keeping. Morrah can’t block, but is an amazing receiving threat, and was brought in simply as Byrd is roster filler but has been very impressing all training camp.

Rest of the roster after the jump

Receivers – 6 spots likely

Locks:

Mike Williams, Sidney Rice, Kris Durham, Golden Tate, Deon Butler

On The

Bubble:

Doug Baldwin, Chris Carter, Patrick Williams, Isaiah Stanback, Spencer Owen, Ben Obomanu, Ricardo Lockette, Chris Carter

Comments:

Butler is headed to the PUP, so don’t count him in as part of the 6 likely to make the team. Baldwin has been impressive, and I expect him to make the team. There’s rumblings that Tate could be cut, but I don’t believe it. As much as everyone seems to be pulling for Stanbeck, I don’t see him making the cut. Too many other who offer more than special teams help ahead of him on the depth chart.

Running Backs and Fullbacks- 4 spots likely

Locks:

Leon Washington, Marshawn Lynch

On The

Bubble:

Dorson Boyce, Clayton Thomas, Michael Robinson, Vai Taua, Justin Forsett

Comments:

Yes, Forset is on the bubble. He’s barely played this preseason, and Washington has taken over his role as the team’s 3

rd

down back. While I think that cutting such a productive player like Forsett would be a mistake, that doesn’t mean it wont happen, especially the way Clayton has been running.

Quarterbacks – 3 spots likely

Locks:

Tarvaris Jackson, Charlie Whitehurst,

On The

Bubble:

Josh Portis

Comments:

I placed Portis on the bubble because there’s a chance the Seahawks start the year with 2 QBs on the roster. There’s also a chance that QB who’s not a 3-4 year project gets cut by another team, and the Seahawks decide to go another direction.

Offensive Line – 11 spots likely

Locks:

Max Unger, Robert Gallery, John Moffit, Breno Giacomini, James Carpenter, Russell Okung, Tyler Polumbus, Mike Gibson

On The

Bubble:

Paul Fanika, Lemuel Jeanpierre, , Will Robinson, Paul McQuistan

Comments:

With 2 backup tackles and 1 backup guard already with the “Locks,” most of the drama here is about players who will likely never see the field.
