I’m trying to temper my obsession with tracking college QBs every week, and take a look at a few other players for a change. It seems I’ve been neglecting the defensive side of the ball so that what’s I’m planning on scouting this week. There’s a lot of games to choose from (there always is), but here are the ones I’m going to be focussing on this week:
Thursday: Cal @ Oregon. ESPN 6:00 pm
Either of these teams have many NFL caliber defensive players, but Oregon CB Cliff Harris was the #7 CB on my pre-season board. Cal DE Trevor Guyton would be interesting mid to late round pick. Cal also has linebackers Mychael Kendrick and DJ Holt, who are mid to late round possibilities.
Friday: Boise State @ Fresno State. ESPN 5:45 pm
I’ll admit up front that I’m really watching this game to watch Boise St. QB Kellen Moore. I’m also wanting to watch Boise St. DE Billy Winn who’d make a perfect 5-technique DE at 300 lbs, and should be around when the Seahawks pick in the 2nd round.
Saturday Early: Oklahoma @ Texas. ABC 9:00 AM
Before you ask, I’m not watching this game to watch Oklahoma QB Landry Jones. I actually have already scouted him and don’t really need to see more of him at this point. I’m actually watching to see if Oklahoma DE Frank Alexander could be a late round option for the Leo DE, and to see Texas DE Alex Okafor for the first time. I’m also going to be watching Texas DT Kheeston Randle, who might be a third round possibility. Same goes for Oklahoma LBs Ronnell Lewis and Travis Lewis.
Saturday Night: Ohio State @ Nebraska. ABC 7:45 PM
Nebraska CB Alfonzo Dennard is my main target in this game. He’s a bit short for Pete Carroll at 5-10, but you never know and CB is a weakness right now. Nebraska DE Jared Crick is another 5 technique option. Both are mid first round talents. Another player in this game is Nebraska LB Levante David. He’s smaller at 225 lbs, but very fast. Could be a 2nd-3rd round pick, and could be a replacement for Leroy Hill on the weak side.
