A Year In Review – Tarvaris Jackson

This was an important year for Tarvaris Jackson’s career. His window as a potential starting quarterback seemed to be over after his time in Minnesota. Had it not been for the lockout and the extremely shortened offseason, it likely would have been.
Instead, the Seahawks gave his career as a starter one last shot since he already knew the the new offense that was being installed by new offensive coordinator Darrell Bevel. Despite what you might have read elsewhere, the results weren’t much different that was expect.
I’m referring, of course, to the fact that Jackson wasn’t all that good, especially early in the year. After the first 3 games, Jackson played better. The only game in which he was genuinely bad the Dallas game in week 8. Other than that, he played well enough for the team to consider starting him in 2012, but not well enough for anyone to believe that he is any sort of long term option at the position.
The opinion of Jackson after this season might be quite different had he not failed in one main area, specifically at the end of halves. Within the last 2 minutes of either half, Jackson was only able to compile a QB rating of 30.7. Jackson’s inability to move the offense at the end of halves, especially the 2nd half cost this team a number of wins and ultimately is why the Seahawks will be looking to find and upgrade at the position
