A Year Year in Review – Marshawn Lynch

By all measures, Marshwn Lynch had a great year. He set new career highs for yards and touchdowns, and did so playing behind one of the weakest offensive lines (at least for the first half of the season) in the NFL.
What’s amazing about the 1204 yards that Lynch finished with is that after 7 games (6 games played, and 1 he missed due to a back injury), Lynch had just 263 yards. 941 of his yards on the ground game over the last 9 games. In fact, over that 9 game stretch, so back in the league had more yards rushing than Lynch did.
It should also not come as a surprise that the Seahawks were just 2-5 in that first stretch, and 5-4 once Lynch got going. Lynch was clearly the difference maker for this offense, and the only reason the Seahawks offense was viable in 2011.
Lynch finished the year 7th in the league in total yards and tied for 2nd in TDs. Lynch also 3rd in the league in first downs. There is simply no statistical measure that doesn’t indicate that Lynch was one of the top backs in the league.
