Seahawks Announce 3 More Signings
By Keith Myers
Today the Seahawks announced that they have signed OG Deuce Lutui, LB Barrett Ruud, and CB Roy Lewis. All 3 were unrestricted free agents.
Lutui was a 2nd round pick back in 2006 to by the Cardinals. He started and played well, until weight problems threatened to end his career. He failed a physical with the Bangles before last season due to his weight concerns, and then spent most of the year on IR after re-signing with the Cardinals.
If Lutui has his weight problems under control, and is back in shape like he was a couple years ago, he could very easily become the Seahawks new starting LG now that Robert Gallery is gone. If not, then he’s likely to end up being cut before the season starts.
Ruud was also a 2nd round pick back in 2006, going to Tampa Bay. He’s been a bit of a disappointment, as they’d hoped he’d develop into a big time playmaker on the defense and it just never happened. What he has been is solid, though, so at this point he is clearly the frontrunner for the starting MLB job until the Seahawks can draft someone better.
Roy Lewis should have been a restricted free agent this offseason, but the Seahawks decided not to tender him a contract, thus letting him walk if he could find another job. He couldn’t, so he returns to Seattle playing for the minimum salary. Lewis has been an outstanding special teams player thus far in his career. But last season was given considerable playing time in the 2nd half of the year and demonstrated that he isn’t a decent CB, which is why he wasn’t tendered a contract.
All 3 players were signed to 1 year deals.
