Trufant Returns to ‘Hawks

Trufant 2.0

Back in January I predicted Trufant would not be with the Seahawks this season.

I was wrong. I think.

It was hard to justify paying him over 5 million this year given his injuries. It was hard not to miss the fact that he’d lost a step at times… even while I was admiring his commitment and how tight he was with his teammates.

But as I said in January, I thought it was the right thing. And I was sad about his departure.

And now with his one year contract, I’m sure for far less than the 5 million we would have paid, I have questions.

Pete and John had made no secret of their “winning” ambitions. Is Trufant a part of that? In a reduced role? In a different position? As a training camp or on field tutor?

Is he coming back to retire a Hawk?

Is he just trying to make the team?

While I don’t know what the outcome will be, but I do know one thing. It’s a class act.

It’s a class act for Trufant to come back from being cut and clearly want to contribute in some manner, even if it’s as a back up.

It’s a class act for front office to cut him (for financial reasons) and then turn around and give him an opportunity to find a way to pitch in.

And it’s just flat out a “feel good” for me, that a guy that played his whole career for the hawks gets to come back and pull one of those awesome new jerseys over his head.

Yehaw!
