Visanthe Shiancoe Rejected Offer From Seahawks Seahawks
By Keith Myers
So the Seahawks apparently offered Visanthe Shiancoe a 1 year contract that was worth about $1.2 million just after the NFL Draft in April. He turned it down, hoping to get a multi-year deal. Instead, the Seahawks trade for a much better player in Kellen Winslow and Shiancoe remains unsigned
Credit NFL.com for this report. If true, this is a huge blunder by Shiancoe, who will likely now end up playing for the veteran minimum. It’s also a major coup by the Seahawks, who managed to get the better player and gave up only a 7th round draft pick to get him.
Shiancoe was the best tight end available at the time, and is probably the best player still available right now at any position. But this is the time of the year when teams are set with their 90 man roster and looking ahead to training camp. Very few deals happen this late in the game. Shiancoe may have to wait until someone gets hurt in the preseason before he even gets a chance now.
Sometimes, it just doesn’t pay to overplay your hand.
