Seattle Seahawks Camp Preview: Defensive Backfield Roster Battles
By Keith Myers
We’re down to jut 4 days until players report, and 5 until they take the field. in this final week of the offseason, I thought it would be good to handicap the roster battles on defense one unit at a time. I’ll update these reports throughout training camp and the preseason.
Here’s how I see the how the roster battles in the defensive backfield shaping up at this point:
Safety (3-4) |
Locks
Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor
On The Bubble
Winston Guy, Jeron Johnson
Work Left To Do
DeShawn Shead, Phillip Adams
Comments:
The real wildcard in this group isn’t even listed. CB Marcus Trufant worked out as the team’s nickel safety during mini-camps, and if he stays there then it’s possible for just 1 of the non-starters to make this team.
Corner (4-5) |
Locks
Brandon Browner, Richard Sherman
On The Bubble
Marcus Trufant, Walter Thurmond*, Jeremy Lane
Work Left To Do
Francies Coye, Roy Lewis, Donny Lisowski, Chris Maragos, Byron Maxwell, Ron Parker
Comments:
Thurmond is expected to start the season the PUP list, opening the door for one of the other players to move up on the list and take a spot. It’s also possible that Trufant takes the spot of a S, instead of a CB, since he lined up at that position during mini-camp, which would open up another spot.
How do you see them looking at this early point in the process?
