Yesterday I wrote about Golden Tate’s status as he enters his contract year. That got me thinking about what other Seahawks are entering the final year. The list is surprisingly short given the fact that rosters are currently have a 90 man limit.

There are plenty of interesting names on the list, including a few players who recently signed 1 year deals. Golden Tate is definitely another interesting name, but I talked about him yesterday.

Another name that should jump out at you in Brandon Browner. Along with Winfield and Thurmond, Browner’s inclusion means that the Seahawks will likely have 3 CB on the roster that are in their contract year. I find it difficult to believe that the team will go into the season with just 5 CBs because of this, so there are clear implications at other positions if all 3 make the team.

Paul McQuistan and Breno Giacomini will be free agents after this year as well. Both have been starters on the offensive line, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens with this pair.

Both players vying for the backup QB job are also on 1 year deals. That’s significant in that it means that neither will be around in a year no matter who wins the job.

The Seahawks also have 4 players who are slated to become restricted free agents after this season:

Doug Baldwin is the key name on that list. He’ll most certainly attract attention should the Seahawks get cute with his tender level. I don’t expect them to though, and wouldn’t be surprised to see him signed to 3 year contract extension and skipping the entire free agent market.
