Seahawks fans are rallying to support homeless 49ers fan
When the Seahawks celebrated their Super Bowl victory with a parade in Seattle last week, the last thing most fans thought they would see was a 49ers fan.
When one showed up dressed head-to-toe in San Francisco gear, fans didn’t know what to think. A picture was snapped of the 49ers supporter and went viral.
Some people thought he was just there to crash the party. Others suggested he may have lost a dare.
But appearances don’t always tell the whole story.
The 49ers fan is 15 years old and, according to multiple reports, he is homeless.
KING 5 reported that Catherine Tate, a die-hard 49ers fan who lives just outside of San Francisco, saw the viral image of the teen in his 49ers gear and decided to do some research on finding out just who the mystery fan was.
“He’s 15, he is a ward of the state, and is homeless essentially. He lives in shelters,” Tate said to KING 5. “So this evolved from, let’s reward this kid for his bravery on one day, to let’s reward him for his bravery every day.”
Tate organized a GoFundMe fundraiser in the hopes of raising $5,500 to bring the teenager to San Francisco.
As of this writing, at approximately 12:30 p.m. PT on Monday, the fundraiser has raised over $25,400 from 655 people.
Seahawks fans are among the supporters who have donated to the cause.
“People from Seattle have donated, saying I bleed blue and green, but this kid needs help and he needs these resources, so I want to partake,” said Tate.
The Seahawks and 49ers may have one of the biggest rivalries in sports on the field, but it’s refreshing to see that that hate doesn’t carry over outside the stadium.
“We’re humans, we’re all people,” Tate said. “And this is bigger than football.”
