It is April Fools Day as I’m sure you know by now, but Pete Carroll also knows what day it is and he used some air time with 710 ESPN Seattle to prank GM John Schneider on Tuesday.
Both Carroll and Schneider were on the “Brock and Danny” show when Carroll announced that Russell Wilson would be practicing with the Wisconsin Badgers basketball team this week as they prepare to play in the Final Four this weekend.
“I just heard, Russell called in and he is so fired up that you’re going to OK him to practice with the basketball team,” Carroll said speaking to Schneider.
“He was really frustrated with the fact that you wouldn’t let him take batting practice with the Rangers, but he’s jacked that he gets to practice and he’s all fired up about the Badgers.”
Schneider sounded slightly disgruntled by the idea and certainly taken back. But he played it cool even though it sounded clear he wasn’t too sure what was going on.
“You know, I thought it wasn’t us and them, Pete,” he joked. “I thought we were partners.”
A little later in the interview, Carroll kept the ruse going.
“I heard [Schneider’s] going to let [Wilson] do the Slam Dunk contest,” Carroll said, “which I think is a move in the right direction to let Russell have some fun with this thing.”
Finally, it sounded like Schneider caught on.
“I was fine with it,” he said. “But Pete was like ‘He can’t dunk, he needs a trampoline.”
Carroll then revealed the joke, excitedly saying, “You just got Punk’d, man.”
It’s always fun to see the great relationship between the two men. Even though they are usually all business, it’s great to see the two take a step back and have some fun every once in a while.
