Seahawks fans will know this name immediately, as Deandre is a former high school Parade All American who got away from the beloved Huskies. How the Cal Bears managed to find Brandon Mebane 2.0 I don’t know, but the Seahawks could have good reason to bring him back to the Northwest. We know they need help on the defensive line and most think it will be at defensive end, but in reality they really need someone to relieve their aging middle-star of every-down-duty first.

Clinton McDonald was the biggest loss on the DL in free agency for that reason, having offered fresh legs, size and extreme depth to a ferocious front and in particular, Mebane. Now that he’s gone Coleman’s youthful breed is highly necessary in Seattle. He would also offer insurance, in case something were to happen to Brandon in the trenches, because though he’s been durable we’ve all seen it happen.

Don’t get me wrong, Tony McDaniel is plenty serviceable and there are young options like Jordan Hill, Jesse Williams and DeWayne Cherry for Seattle to exercise. But even more-so than would be the case with my previous option of McGill, Coleman also would offer relief on the money-front.

Mebane is making a ridiculous $5.5 million with a $5.7 million cap hit. At least it’s ridiculous when considering how much the Hawks have tied up in their secondary. Yes, Mebane is worth the price, but with Russell Wilson‘s contract extension upcoming after this season, relieving any and all replaceable cap space is an absolute must.

Lastly here, unlike those other youngsters I mentioned, Coleman brings instant starter quality at a spot none of the others can truly fill at the nose. At 6’5″, 315 lbs and with his high motor and skill set, he is a great fit from my perspective.
