Draft Pick Additions
- Round 2, Pick 32 (64) – Justin Britt, OT, Missouri
I’m a lot more excited about Britt’s addition in the draft than most. Many have said that Britt was drastically over-drafted and that the Seahawks had some other options on the board at this point in time like Morgan Moses, Gabe Jackson or Spencer Long. It’s also a thought that they should have USED their 1st round pick on a guy like Xavier Su’a-Filo or Joel Bitonio, both of whom went in the first three picks of the second round. P-Rich was far too valuable to the offense though at that point in Carroll’s and Schneider’s minds and I’m totally fine with that. When looking back on the other guys available at 64, it was all basically a matter of who you liked and who you didn’t. Moses and Jackson both had battled injury while Britt was steady and durable. Everybody else graded out about the same and they really felt Britt fit the scheme better than anyone else. On top of that rumor has it that Britt would’ve gone a couple picks later, in which case the dropoff would have been significant for the Hawks in round 4. Needed a starter, got a potential starter and with the way OL were ripping off the board the first couple rounds I had zero problem with “over-drafting” to get Justin Britt.
Draft Grade: A+
- Round 6, Pick 23, (199) – Garrett Scott, OT, Marshall
This is one of two picks I REALLY didn’t like but it actually goes back to the PREVIOUS pick that really messed up this part of the draft in my opinion. Scott really should have been one of three other guys who were absolute STOLEN MONEY at this point in time; OT Laurent Duvarney-Tardif from Canada, OT Seantrel Henderson from Miami, DT Stephen Shamar from UConn or DT Daniel McCullers from Tennessee. While we’re at it BCS quarterback Taj Boyd from Clemson was on the board still, ya know since they decided to add to the QB room with Keith Price anyway. Basically I get that Scott gives them some versatility and it reminds me of the J.R. Sweezy pick which is a decent thing but with Henderson and the others on the board this was a wasted pick to me. Also, a very compelling argument was used in an article I just read that if the Seahawks really wanted him, he would’ve probably easily been there in free agency.
Draft Grade: C-
Undrafted Free Agent Additions
- OT Garry Gilliam – Penn State
No grade on this pickup just another pickup that makes me frustrated about missing out on Henderson or Tardif. Even Boise State OT Charles Leno, Jr was available and graded out significantly higher than Scott. Uuuuugh!
