Richard Sherman deserves to grace cover of ‘Madden 15’
Richard Sherman proved last year that not only is he the best corner in the game, he may be the best defensive player in the entire league.
He led a pass-friendly NFL with eight interceptions and was the anchor of the best defense in the game — and arguably one of the best defenses of all-time.
He became a viral sensation when he told America not to ever talk about him and he recently signed one of the biggest contract extensions for a corner back in the league.
What’s next?
It could be gracing the cover of Madden NFL 15, the next edition of the popular video game franchise.
Sherman has to be voted onto the cover by fans, and so far he is already in the second round, having been voted past Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery in the first round. Sherman took 73 percent of that vote.
Sherman is the No. 1 seed in the vote with Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton the other No. 1 seed.
The next opponent for Sherman is New Orleans Saints TE Jimmy Graham, who is a No. 4 seed in the contest.
You can vote for Sherman here if you would like to see him on the cover of the new video game.
But beware of the “Madden curse.”
The last time a Seahawk was on the cover of a Madden video game was when Shaun Alexander was featured on Madden NFL 07. Unfortunately, the “Madden curse,” if you believe in that sort of thing, hit Alexander hard after the game was released.
The year prior to the cover release, Alexander led the league in rushing attempts (370), yards (1,880) and touchdowns (27) to help lead the Seahawks to the franchise’s first Super Bowl.
After the cover release, which came about two weeks before the start of the 2006-07 campaign, Alexander’s numbers dropped dramatically. He only rushed for 896 yards and seven touchdowns in 10 games.
Was that the curse or just a bad year?
We will never know but it will be interesting to see, if Sherman is on the cover, how much the curse will affect it’s game.
I, for one, think it’s all bologna and will be voting for him anyway.
What about you?
