It was discovered that Bowie has a shoulder injury that will require surgery and, as a result, the Seahawks made the announcement.
Bowie was Seattle’s seventh-round draft selection last year, and played in nine games last season, starting eight of them.
He was expected to compete to be a big part of the offensive line next season, but now it looks like Seattle is going in a different direction.
They signed Eric Winston, a 30-year-old right tackle, earlier this week and now it looks like Winston will be a major possibility to take over the right tackle position.
His biggest competition will probably be rookie Justin Britt, though Britt left Saturday’s practice scrimmage with a shoulder injury.
That would make Winston a favorite on that side of the ball.
The waiving of Bowie may come to a surprise to some fans, but Seahawks analysts revealed some tidbits worth mentioning:
There is a chance that Bowie could be claimed by another team, but Seattle is reportedly not too concerned about that:
Bowie will be placed on injured reserve if he clears waivers.
