The Seattle Seahawks took on the Green Bay Packers at CenturyLink Field for the first game of the season Thursday night on a clear and sunny day, giving a great omen for the defending champs.

On top of that, the Super Bowl championship banner was unveiled along with green and blue fireworks to take spirits to an even greater high.

The 12th Man welcomed the opponent with warm boos and thumbs down. And for good reason.

The Russell Wilson/Clay Matthews Bose commercial brought even more anxiety and intensity to the game.

With the energy high, the ball was finally kicked off to begin the 2014 season.

The Seahawks played exceptionally well in the first and second half of the game and ultimately came out with the big 36-16 victory.

The Packers were hurt early in the second quarter when starting right tackle Bryan Bulaga left with a knee injury and tight end Richard Rodgers left with a neck injury and the game was officially over when Derrick Coleman put the last nail in the coffin with a late touchdown score, the last points of the game.

“We read the offense pretty well, we knew they were going to come out and run a Eddie Lacy offense” Bobby Wagner said when asked how the Seattle defense kept the Green Bay offense in front of them all night. “Once we made them one dimensional, we thought we were good.” Wagner had an excellent game himself, coming out with 14 tackles, a game high.

The offense played right where it left off from last season. But now, they have even more weapons on offense and more experience as a team. And on top of that, the Seahawks have added Percy Harvin back to the mix.

“Lord have mercy, we got Percy,” Wilson said in his post game interview. Wilson threw for 19 of 28 passes for 191 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The biggest takeaway is that the Seattle Seahawks are going back to the Super Bowl and they’re the best team in the NFL.

There’s nowhere to go from here. Russell Wilson is getting better and is on his way to becoming an elite quarterback. From this game alone, you can already see that they’re a better team than last season.

They play hard. They play tough.

The biggest problem is that they need a reliable punt returner. Earl Thomas looked really uncomfortable fielding the ball for the first time since college.

And Bruce Irvin isn’t there. If and when Irvin gets back in the lineup, their pass rush will be unstoppable.

However, it was just the first game of the season and they have 15 games left until the postseason, which means a lot of tweaking, moving and perfecting.

It was the first meeting between the teams since the infamous “Fail Mary” game two years ago. A disputed touchdown throw from then-rookie Russell Wilson to Golden Tate as the clock wound down gave Seattle the 14-12 victory and paved the way to a resolution between the league and its locked-out game officials. However, this go round, both teams are favored to win their divisions and push each other for the NFC title.

The defending super bowl champion Seattle Seahawks are 1-0 to begin the season. 1 down, 15 to go.
