The Seattle Seahawks are set to take the 12s down the coast and on the road to Qualcomm Stadium, where the San Diego Chargers await in week 2.

More from Seattle Seahawks News

The Seahawks were more than impressive in week 1, dispatching of the high-flying Green Bay Packers without much trouble. However teams and fans still might not take this team as seriously as they deserve if they go on the road and struggle. Then again, the Hawks are the reigning champs, so it’s difficult not to be all-in after week 1.

The Chargers had their first game against the NFC West in their clutches, but couldn’t quite finish the deal, allowing the Arizona Cardinals to nip them on a late touchdown. Just as it was last week, if the Chargers are going to win today it would seem that it’s going to take more than 17 points on the board offensively, but that won’t be easy against the league’s best defense.

For Seattle Russell Wilson didn’t have an amazing day in week 1 but was solid, throwing for 191 yards and 2 touchdowns against zero interceptions. Marshawn Lynch returned in a big way as well, going for 110 yards on just just 20 carries and a score. The rest of the Hawks attack was spread out well, but having Percy Harvin on the field was an obvious advantage for them after he missed most of 2013. Harvin accounted for exactly 100 yards of total offense on 11 touches last Thursday.

For San Diego their defense was much improved over previous seasons, at least for a game which is good news to Chargers fans, but couldn’t hold on to keep Arizona out of the end zone late. A problem for them might be that starting cornerback Brandon Flowers may miss the game.

Phillip Rivers was 21-36 for 238 yards, with 1 touchdown and an interception. He could use more help from starting running back Ryan Matthews, who only accounted for 40 yards rushing. The offense faces an even stingier defense this week so it should be interesting.

The other unfortunate thing for San Diego is that the scheduling gods did them no favors. The Seahawks received three extra days of rest (Thursday night opener) while the Chargers are coming off of a short week after playing late Monday night. Seattle has a decided edge on paper going into this one.
