Seahawks Injury News: Bobby Wagner, Russell Okung, Byron Maxwell

Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner is expected to be out for a few weeks after playing with a turf toe injury against both the Redskins and Cowboys the last two weeks. And that’s just the start of the Seahawks injury news.

“He has a turf toe and we’ll have to see what that means over the next couple of days,” Carroll said. “He’s banged up.”

Injuries have begun to hit the Seahawks hard this season after going most of 2013 relatively healthy. In the past month Seattle has had to deal with serious injuries to TE Zach Miller (ankle), S Kam Chancellor (ankle and hip), LT Russell Okung (shoulder), C Max Unger (foot), and CB Byron Maxwell (calf).

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has said that Okung will play against the Rams, but the status’ of Maxwell and Unger is uncertain. Zach Miller and Bobby Wagner are not expected to play.

The two areas that are of most concern right now have to be the secondary and offensive line. The secondary, once considered the deepest group on the roster has been hit especially hard. Only Earl Thomas has made it through without the first six weeks of the season without being mentioned in injury news.

Richard Sherman apparently suffered a minor shoulder injury against the Cowboys but is able to practice and play this week.

With Okung hurting, Unger out, and TE Zach Miller recovering from ankle surgery, the Seahawks’ o-line has been struggling to protect QB Russell Wilson and create time to get their offense in a rhythm. Although Marshawn Lynch had a 6+ ypc average against the Cowboys, the offense was incapable of getting anything going with Percy Harvin or the passing game.

With the NFC West being arguably the toughest division in football, the Seahawks have to get healthy, fast, in order to not let the Cardinals and 49ers get too far ahead in the standings.
