Seahawks vs Rams Ends on Fumble That Wasn’t Reviewed (GIF)
By Paul Novak
The Seattle Seahawks lose two in a row for just the first time since Week’s 7 and 8 of the 2012 season.
It’s always tough to watch 59 minutes of an intense football game, only to have it decided on the final play by an official that clearly messed up.
After a Rams running back ran past the first down marker in the closing drive of the Seahawks and Rams game, a Seattle defender knocked the ball loose. As the ball shot forward and was thought to be secured by another Rams offensive player, it clearly popped out once again, where Seahawks CB Richard Sherman can clearly be seen spooning the ball and gaining possession with 61 seconds remaining.
A pile up ensues and an official can then be seen coming out of the pile with the football after Sherman handed it to him.
The officials say the second Rams player was down and that clear possession was never made by the Seahawks after the second fumble. The official in charge of reviews with under two minutes to go never buzzes down to the field signaling for a review by the referee.
Game over!
How can an official with one job clearly mess up so badly? The NFL should never be happy with a game ending in such a way. This is exactly why reviews were introduced in the first place. Make the decision to have as many looks as you can and get the call right!
