The San Francisco 49ers might not be with their head coach Jim Harbaugh for much longer.

And, depending on who you talk to, that’s either good news or bad news.

Harbaugh’s name has been in multiple trade rumors since the start of the season because of his alleged poor relationships with his players.

Now that the team has fallen to 7-5 and their chances at the postseason are looking slim, Harbaugh’s name is once again in trade rumors.

It’s rare to see a head coach traded to another team, but it does happen and according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Oakland Raiders and New York Jets are the favorites to make that happen:

Both teams are expected to offer draft picks for the services of the head coach.

Taking charge of the Raiders would be an interesting challenge for Harbaugh, who “has the third-highest winning percentage (.729) of any coach of multiple seasons in the modern era of NFL history.”

The Raiders, on the other hand, have only won five games in their last two seasons.

The Jets could also use some change at management after going 2-9 to start this season.

Harbaugh has coached in California since 2002. After coaching at Western Kentucky for seven years, the Raiders offered him a quarterbacks coaching position which he excelled at. He coached Rich Gannon to Super Bowl XXXVII and the 2002 AP NFL MVP award.

After just two years in Oakland, Harbaugh moved to Southern California to take the head coaching spot at the University of San Diego.

But he broke through a few years later, when he moved back to Northern California to coach Stanford University. He struggled in his first few seasons, but in 2010, he led the program to their first BCS Bowl win since 1996. That team went 12-1 and beat Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl.

Following that season, he moved a few miles away to San Francisco and has been the 49ers coach since.

In his first three seasons with the team, the 49ers made it to the NFC Championship game, but they haven’t been able to win the biggest games of the year.

In those three NFC title games, the 49ers are 1-2 and lost Super Bowl XLVII to the Baltimore Ravens in 2012.

If the 49ers decide to trade their head coach, it’s not expected to be midseason.

Harbaugh has one year left on his contract with San Francisco.
