Seattle Seahawks Injuries: Max Unger Doubtful for 49ers Rematch
By Paul Novak
Max Unger, the Seattle Seahawks Pro Bowl center has been out with ankle and knee injuries since the Week 11 lose to the Kansas City Chiefs. Although Unger did return to practice for the first time since being removed from the game, he’s still listed as doubtful and likely won’t play in the final meeting with the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday. Lemuel Jeanpierre will start his third straight game at center.
Max got some practice time in. He’ll be listed as doubtful at this point, but really encouraging signs about his ability to get back here soon. – Pete Carroll
Fortunately the injury to Unger has been the only recent setback as the Seahawks are gaining momentum to win their second straight NFC West title and earn a bid for homefield advantage throughout the NFC playoffs. Seattle has won six of their last seven while the 49ers have fallen to the brink of elimination with just one more loss.
The Arizona Cardinals were 9-1 before back-to-back losses to the Seahawks and Falcons opened a window for the Seahawks to come back in the division race. An injury to starting QB Drew Stanton, who was already filling in for Carson Palmer, creates an even larger opening since Seattle and Arizona play again in two weeks.
Tight end Cooper Helfet has been limited in the past two practices but has shown some real progress in recovering from his ankle injury and while being listed as questionable, shows some potential to play.
Cornerback Jeremy Lane and running back Marshawn Lynch are both listed as probable on the Seahawks official injury report and will play baring a setback.
Defensive end Demarcus Dobbs is the only Seahawk listed as “out” for the game against the 49ers.
