Tom Brady threw for 328 yards, four touchdowns and completed 37 passes to lead the New England Patriots to a 28-24 Super Bowl XLIX victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night in Arizona.

Brady was named Super Bowl XLIX MVP, the third time he has won the honor.

His partner-in-crime, Julian Edelman, caught nine passes for 109 yards and a touchdown and became the fourth Patriot to have more than 100 receiving yards in a Super Bowl.

The win was the Patriots first Super Bowl title since 2004.

In a game that was back-and-forth, it was New England who ultimately took the championship belt from the Seahawks, who won the Super Bowl last year.

The first quarter was all Patriots, as New England held possession of the ball for more than 10 of the first 15 minutes of the game.

They posted 75 total yards in the quarter, compared to Seattle’s 17, but weren’t able to find the end zone. They got close on their second possession, which lasted nearly eight minutes, but Brady was rushed on the throw and Jeremy Lane picked the pass off in the end zone.

Lane’s first career interception was at a great cost to Seattle though as he broke his left arm at the end of the play and missed the remainder of the game.

Seattle wasn’t able to capitalize on the turnover, however, and the Patriots were the first team to score.

In the second quarter, Brady found Brandon LaFell on a slant play that gave the Patriots a 7-0 lead.

But Seattle tied the game right before the first half’s two-minute warning when Marshawn Lynch found the endzone to cap an eight-play, 70-yard drive to make it 7-7.

Lynch had an effective night, rushing 24 times for 102 yards and the touchdown.

After his touchdown, both teams went on a scoring spree.

The Patriots marched down the field in their two-minute drill and took a 14-7 lead when Brady hit Rob Gronkowski on a fade route with a 31 seconds left. Gronkowski had six catches for 68 yards on Sunday.

Not to be outdone, Russell Wilson and the Seahawks put together an 80-yard drive that only took five plays and 29 seconds. It ended when Wilson hit Chris Matthews in the end zone on a 4th and goal to tie the game at 14-14 at the half.

The catch was Matthews first career NFL touchdown. He had a career-high four catches for 109 yards and was the first Seahawk to have a 100-yard receiving game in a Super Bowl.

Seattle got the ball back at the start of the second half and another big play from Matthews set up a 27-yard field goal for Steven Hauschka, who is now a career 3-for-3 in Super Bowls and 13-for-13 in postseason field goals.

Now down 17-14, the Patriots offense began to stall as Brady threw his second interception of the game midway through the third quarter. This time it was Bobby Wagner who picked it off and that set up another Seattle score. Wagner also had a team-high 12 tackles.

Wilson led Seattle down the field following the turnover and threw a touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin who found himself wide open in the back of the endzone to give the Seahawks a 24-14 lead, which was the largest deficit Brady had faced in his six Super Bowls.

Baldwin led Seattle’s receivers in catches and yards in last year’s Super Bowl but he only had one catch this year.

It wasn’t until halfway through the fourth quarter that the Patriots made it a game again, when Brady threw his third touchdown of the night, finding Danny Amendola to make it a 24-21 Seahawks lead. Amendola had five catches for 48 yards.

The touchdown pass was record-breaking for Brady — it was his 12th career touchdown pass in the Super Bowl, passing Joe Montana for the most in Super Bowl history.

Following that touchdown, Brady threw touchdown number four with two minutes left in the game to give the Patriots a 28-24 lead.

Seattle was left with two minutes to get down the field and they got all the way to New England’s two-yardline with 25 seconds left in the game.

Instead of giving the ball to Lynch, the offense tried throwing the ball to Ricardo Lockette on a quick slant and it was intercepted by Malcolm Butler to effectively end the game.

Russell Wilson had 247 passing yards, a pair of touchdowns and an interception, but he lost just his second career playoff game and now has a postseason record of 6-2.

Seattle’s season is over but they should still be a force to be reckoned with in the NFC.

Perhaps next year, Seattle fans. This year was another good run.
