Former Missouri Tiger (and technically Oklahoma Sooner, though he never played there) wide receiver Dorial Green Beckham is a guy who will often be tied to the Seattle Seahawks by the draft media. While he fits everything Seattle could want physically at the position, it is easy to see why he may not be considered draftable by many teams.
Josh Gordon’s recent year-long suspension certainly isn’t going to help. Gordon’s inability to stay out of trouble and on the field will certainly cause teams to reconsider the value of a talented but troubled player like Green-Beckham.
What the Tape Shows
Green-Beckham is listed at 6’5″ and 225 lbs. He plays that big too, with long arms and a great catch radius. He’s also got great downfield speed to be a legitimate deep threat. Strong in the air when challenging for the ball.
He’s surprisingly fluid in his hips for a guy his size, though he is a bit of a long-strider which slows him down going into his breaks. Doesn’t avoid contact, and knows how to use his body to shield off smaller defenders. He is also a willing downfield blocker, which is something the Seahawks require of their receivers.
Off-field concerns
Off the field is where Green-Beckham runs to problems. Literally. He was thrown off Mizzou’s team after multiple violations, including throwing a woman down some stairs. There are also reports that his work ethic is poor and he doesn’t take coaching well.
That’s a toxic combination, and NFL teams won’t take those reports lightly. Marquess Wilson fell to the 7th round for far less, though he was more raw and in need of development than Green-Beckham
