Seahawks’ Marshawn Lynch Thinking Retirement… Maybe
By Paul Novak
Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch is the one player in the National Football League who doesn’t want any attention thrown his way by the media. Yet six weeks into 2015, he’s gotten more of it than anyone else.
It began even before the season started. In the beginning of the 2014 season, the Seahawks were reportedly not interested in bringing Lynch back after this season. ESPN and other outlets took off with the story, especially with the Percy Harvin situation making it seem the Seahawks locker room was in turmoil.

Once that story died down all focus turned to Lynch’s NFL obligations for the Super Bowl media day activities. Would Lynch participate? Or would he risk an even greater fine? His actions during the 2014 Super Bowl caused Lynch to be fined $50,000. A repeat violation caused the total amount to reach $100,000.
We all saw the three-day media sessions unfold on TV, resulting in some of the greatest comedy that sports television has ever seen. Lynch was there so he wouldn’t get fined… and he didn’t.
Now that the season is over, Marshawn Lynch is rumored to be strongly considering retirement.
And why wouldn’t he. He’s one of the most physical running backs in the history of the league. Lynch has been playing through injuries in at least each of the last two seasons. At 28 years old, Lynch is at the point in his career where his skills are going to begin to decline.
With back-to-back Super Bowl appearances in the last two seasons, winning one, now would seem like a great time to call it a career and focus on other joys in life.
Except Marshawn Lynch loves football. And the Seattle Seahawks could be offering him $10 million reasons to not give it up next season. Seahawks general manager John Schneider has reportedly offered the All-Pro running back a massive extension that would double what Lunch is scheduled to earn in 2015, the last season under his current contract.
Former Seahawks fullback Michael Robinson, who might be closer to Lynch than anyone, is saying that Lynch has, and is considering retirement. But nobody knows what Marshawn is gong to do, including himself.
"I don’t know exactly what Marshawn is thinking,” NFL Media’s Michael Robinson, a former teammate and close friend of Lynch’s, said on Wednesday’s NFL Total Access. “I don’t think anyone knows exactly what he’s thinking. But what I do know is that the guys in that locker room mean the world to him. What I do know is that he’s the best running back in National Football League. And what I also know is he is under contract next year."
