Seahawks look to add center, Stefen Wisniewski in town
By Paul Novak
Seattle’s front office knows that they created a new hole on the roster when they traded center Max Unger to the New Orleans Saints in the Jimmy Graham deal. As ESPN’s Skip Bayless, whom I tend to disagree with 90% of the time stated, the Seahawks may have just pulled off one of the greatest steals in NFL trade history.

Yes, the Seahawks added the second best tight end in the NFL when they made the trade. Yes, they traded away one of the best center’s in the league and also gave up a first round pick. A pick that would have been very useful in possibly replacing Unger.
Luckily they could be plugging that hole with a pretty reliable center in Stefen Wisniewski. The former Oakland Raider is visiting with the Seattle Seahawks while looking for a new job. Former Dolphins guard Shelley Smith did the same yesterday but apparently left without signing with the team.
Wisniewski is no Max Unger, never appearing in a Pro Bowl or being named to an All-Pro team. What Stefan is however, is the best free agent center available.
Drafted in the second round by the Raiders, the 25-year-old lineman began his career as a left guard before making the transition. Over the past four years he’s appeared in 61 games as a center.
The Seahawks aren’t the only team showing interest in Wisniewski as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago Bears and St. Louis Rams have all been kicking the tires.
As it stands now, the Seahawks still need to address the center and left guard positions on the offensive line. James Carpenter was average in his time with Seattle but he’s a body the Seahawks will need to replace.
Alvin Bailey is the leading candidate to assume that role if the Seahawks were to play today, but it’s very likely the NFL draft will supply at least one other player to provide competition in training camp.
